Blue Lagoon National Park
Blue Lagoon is situated west of Lusaka on the Kafue Flats and the enormous floodplain is a magnet for thousands of Kafue Lechwe, plenty of buffalo and waterbirds. The Blue Lagoon National Park is fondly referred to as a birders paradise because of the many bird species that are found there. Blue Lagoon was established more than four decades ago by the Critchleys, a retired colonel from the British Army and his wife Erica - an environmentally oriented farming family who later sold it to the National Parks Department. Their farmhouse still exists which is now the Park reception.  A little further on are two old chalets and two new chalets available for accommodation. Despite the park being established many years ago it has only recently been open to the general public as it was safeguarded by the Ministry of defence and this because of that fact is one on the most unspoiled places left in Africa. Blue Lagoon and Lochinvar National Parks on the other side of the Kafue Flats, hold the largest concentrations of the Kafue Lechwe and hundreds can be observed here.
